What I love about travelling
Updated: Jul 3, 2019
I dare you to find one travel blog out there that does not talk about a 'lust' for adventure or in any way shape or form referring to travel as a lifestyle choice... don't even get me started on #noregrets.
With that in mind, I will keep this short, sweet and simple.
For me, travelling is about challenge.
Travelling is about challenging the norm, more specifically MY norm. It is challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone and into uncharted territory. I travel because I love to learn new things, to see new sights, to taste new flavour, to hear new sounds and smell new fragrances.
The more you travel the more you see. The more you see the more you understand. The more you understand the more you learn. The more you learn the more intelligent you become.
In my featured blog post 'What I love about teaching' I talked about emotional memories being the strongest of all memory connections in the brain. As I travel I can attach things that I have seen and stories that I have heard to physical experiences of places and people. I am able to build a mental portfolio of culture which I often refer back to in the classroom. I love the feeling of 'collecting' new information and locations so I travel whenever I can, wherever I can, however I can.
Side note: Although they will definitely NOT admit to agreeing, I am totally convinced that my students do actually enjoy hearing about my travel stories and experiences in the classroom; they just will not want to give me the satisfaction! But I'm on to you 10B4!
